Joyce Bonner joined the GSDC family in early ‘09 as a housing counselor for the Keep Our Homes Campaign.

Joyce comes to us with ten years of banking experience that include loan processing, preparing closing packages, clearing title exceptions, and underwriting and analyzing consumer and retail loans. As a Homeownership Consultant with NHS, she has conducted weekly pre-purchase homeownership classes and counseled clients on budget and credit issues to prepare them for homeownership. Cultivating relationships with lenders to negotiate workouts, forbearance agreements and short payoffs to preserve homeownership was a key part of her work and will remain so at GSDC. Most recently, as a Team Leader at the Chicago Housing Authority (CHAC) with the Housing Opportunity Program, she worked with the Chicago Housing Choice Voucher Program to assist Section 8 voucher-holders in their housing search and provided counseling services. At CHAC, she helped create an avenue for tenants who were victims of housing discrimination to report these occurrences and made the appropriate referrals to initiate grievances and court cases. She is a member of Chosen Tabernacle Church where she is a volunteer in the Food Pantry and has participated as a volunteer cook at Southwest Chicago PADS, a faith-based organization that serves the homeless.
